The Friday evening before the contest there was a extra rehearsal. While the drumline and brass were warming up, the guard members got their first glimpse of the new color guard uniform. Everything was put on and fitted right. That evening Jong Beatrix marched their first dress-rehearsal show in full uniform. Many parents were present at this rehearsal, almost like a “try-out”.

The next morning Jong Beatrix rehearsed from 9:00 until 12:00. The weather was beautiful so inevitably a water fight started. It was a good rehearsal where Movements three and four saw some major improvement. The rehearsal was concluded with two good runs of the entire program. Jong Beatrix was ready for the contest and the members were self-assured and very excited.
At 14:00 the corps arrived in Huizen. Busses, uniforms, brass and percussion instruments and flags were everywhere. You could feel the drumcorps vibe. The uniforms where put on again, makeup was done and hair was styled and the corps got warmed up. At 15:15 everyone was ready to go, anxious to get out on the field and perform the first contest show of 2010.

“Jong Beatrix, are you ready?” the speaker sounded. Danielle saluted the audience and the show could start. Jong Beatrix performed a good show; the ABBA feeling blasted from the field and the children had great fun. It was a show to be proud of, especially when you keep in mind that the program was only completed two weeks earlier. The ABBA Rulez show was rewarded with a 3rd place.

It is almost time for the summer break, but there are still some things on the agenda before that time. Saturday, July 3rd is going to be a fun day. This day every member gets to bring a friend to the rehearsal to show how much fun their hobby is. The ‘bring a friend day’ will conclude with a party with a holiday theme.
Saturday, July 10th will be the Beatrix Association’s Family Day. This day Jong Beatrix will rehearse with Beatrix’ Drum & Bugle Corps. After the rehearsal will be the Alumni Association’s big reunion. In short: there’s enough to look forward to!
