corsoFLOWER PARADE VOLLENHOVENederlands

BEATRIX' 31-08-2010
When it rains, Dutch people always say ‘it is good for the plants’. But everyone who has marched in a corps knows that it is nothing more than cold and wet. But sometimes we are lucky with the weather….

The members of Beatrix’ Drum & Bugle Corps did not rehearse last Saturday. Instead, they performed in the flower parade in Vollenhove. Members could get out of bed at a reasonable time, because instead being on the field at 09:00 they were expected at the corps hall at 10:45. After a cup of coffee the busses were boarded and the corps was on its way to Vollenhove.

In the bus everyone could see the first few raindrops appearing on the windows. Quickly more came, and within five minutes it was pouring down. Everybody who looked out the front window could see that the bus driver seemed to ride over a waterslide. People checked on their cell phones to see if more rain was come, in the hope to march the afternoon in dry weather. The weather forecast was not on our side and predicted rain. LOTS OF RAIN.

Upon arrival in Vollenhove there was almost no rain. The truck was unloaded and it was time to put on the uniform. After a short warm-up the sun even started to shine and it was time to start the parade. Beatrix’ took place between two beautiful flower wagons and it was time to march two rounds of the village. Two rounds became one and a bit.

The whole parade was delayed due to a broken wagon and Beatrix’ was appointed a shortcut to arrive on time at the tattoo. On the tattoo terrain the corps performed a nice show, especially when one keeps in mind that before that members had a 1,5 hour long parade. After the show it was time to eat. Everybody was hungry and luckily the food truck was running at full steam. At night there was the ‘evening parade’ and Beatrix’ marched the exact same rounds as in the afternoon. This time the wagons and village were decorated with thousands of lights.

Once the parade was almost over there came, yes, finally…. rain. Luckily the corps quickly arrived at the dressing rooms so the members didn’t get all too wet. All the instruments and uniforms were loaded into the truck and the trip home to Hilversum could start.
